Our client is an outsourced bookkeeping business based in Witham, who support small to medium sized companies with Bookkeeping, VAT returns, payroll, CIS returns, management accounts and software training. Due to growth, they are actively looking for a new Senior Bookkeeper to join their friendly team.

Job Duties

This role offers the opportunity to manage a varied client portfolio across Essex and London, delivering accurate bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, and management accounts while building strong client relationships. Working both independently and as part of a supportive team, you will play a key role in maintaining high professional standards and contributing to the continued success of this expanding business.

 

Duties (include but are not limited to):

  • Oversee and manage a portfolio of client bookkeeping requirements across Essex and London
  • Complete double-entry bookkeeping, maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records
  • Manage sales and purchase ledgers, including invoicing, payments, and reconciliations
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with HMRC regulations
  • Monitor bank accounts, perform bank reconciliations, and track client cash flow
  • Process payroll and manage CIS returns for a range of clients
  • Produce management accounts and financial reports to support client decision-making
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients, acting as a key point of contact (including occasional client visits)
  • Supervise and support a bookkeeper, reviewing their work for accuracy and completeness
  • Provide on-the-job training, guidance, and ongoing development support to the bookkeeper
  • Work across multiple accounting platforms (including Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, and others)
  • Carry out general administrative duties and support the wider team as required

Company Description
Applicant Specification
  • AAT Level 3 qualified (essential)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ bookkeeping experience, ideally within a practice environment (or close to)
  • Proven experience using Xero (essential), with knowledge of QuickBooks preferred
  • Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, and CIS processes
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build and maintain client relationships
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple clients
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Professional, adaptable, and proactive with a positive “can-do” attitude

Driving Licence required for the role: Yes
