Our client is a Christian conference centre dedicated to creating a warm and welcoming environment where the Christian faith can be taught, explored and lived out. Fellowship, teaching, worship and pastoral care are at the heart of the centre’s ethos, with a strong focus on supporting visitors through meaningful group activities and community engagement. They are now recruiting a new Centre Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of the centre and help continue its mission and values.

Job Duties

The Centre Manager will provide strong and inspiring leadership to support the ongoing development of the centre’s ministry and long-term vision. The role is responsible for ensuring an excellent experience for all guests, leading and supporting staff and volunteers, overseeing effective financial management, and maintaining and developing the estate to a high standard. This is a key leadership position requiring a proactive and people-focused individual who can uphold the centre’s values while driving operational excellence and sustainable growth.

 

Duties (include but are not limited to):

  • Ensure that the ethos and Christian purpose of the Hall is maintained.
  • To formulate strategies and policies to develop the ministry of the hall for consideration by the Board of Trustees. Implement those strategies agreed with the Board.
  • Oversee the marketing and fundraising activities for the ministry of the Hall within the policies agreed with the Board.
  • Participate in discussions and decisions at Board Meetings and/or subcommittees of the Board as requested and provide reports to the Board as requested.
  • Ensure that the whole team creates an environment that ensures excellent customer service to all those who use the Hall
  • Ensure that the team builds excellent relationships with those using the Hall and provide pastoral support or input into any programmes to those using the Hall as and when needed.
  • Develop and maintain excellent customer feedback processes and deal with complaints effectively.
  • Manage the staff team to ensure the effective deployment of staff and to motivate and care for their well-being within the Christian ethos of the Hall.
  • Recruit and motivate volunteers to assist in the work of the Hall and ensure that volunteers are trained for their role and are effectively managed.
  • Ensure the effective appraisal and training of staff and volunteers takes place.
  • Develop the annual budget in conjunction with the Board of Trustees.
  • Oversee the accounting and book-keeping at the Hall ensuring that all accounting and book-keeping policies are carried out.
  • Develop business cases or plans for new or proposed activities at the Hall for consideration by the Board of Trustees.
  • Oversee the process of recruiting and managing outside contractors for work at the Hall, in line with Board policies, and ensuring that all contractual obligations are fulfilled.
  • Oversee the project management of new developments and ongoing maintenance.
  • In conjunction with the Hospitality Manager oversee short-term maintenance activity.
  • Oversee the development of medium to long-term maintenance plans for approval by the Board and ensure that those plans that are approved are carried out.
  • Ensure that all legal obligations regarding new building projects and maintenance at the Hall are fulfilled.

  • Able to manage people effectively towards fulfilling the vision, building an effective team and motivate people to do the best they can. Able to delegate effectively
  • Excellent oral communication skills, especially with individuals
  • Experience in successfully managing a team in a business or charitable environment
  • Strategic and project planning, able to develop a business case
  • Experience in project management and success in delivering on time and within budget
  • Experience within the service sector in dealing with customers and desirable experience in running a hotel, guest house or conference centre
  • Good financial planning management skills
  • Able to engage with a wide range of people and build rapport. Enjoy developing good relations with customers, the Christian community and the wider community as a whole. Skilled in promoting the work of an organisation
  • Able to develop and implement marketing and fundraising plans
  • Experience of presenting funding proposals or projects to decision makers
  • Good IT skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and have good organisation skills
  • Biblical conviction about the Christian gospel
  • An ability and desire to apply the Bible to day-to-day challenges
  • Excellent listener
  • Ability to change plans at short notice
  • Driving license and willing to use own transport for work purposes
  • Willing to live on site
