A Day in the Life of a Marketeer
Thinking about starting a career in Marketing? Or simply interested in what a day looks like for a Marketer at Lighthouse Personnel? Check out what Laura has to say about how she got into Marketing and what her typical day looks like!
Why did you choose marketing?
I was at sixth form in a place where I wasn’t sure what direction to take. I loved my studies- Photography, Media, English language and Finance. I knew if I got a job where I could transfer all these skills, that would be ideal. I carried out a lot of research into Marketing, and I found all the insights and seeing the results of your work progress over time extremely rewarding. I therefore leapt at the chance to transfer my skills into this role at LHP.

My usual day will be 9-5, however I like to come in slightly earlier to settle in and check any unread emails, social media messages and get my agenda for the day sorted. I action anything urgent, for example if I need to send an invoice that morning, I will get this prepared first thing. I would then check any news/social media trends to share with our followers.

My mornings are varied depending on the day. If it’s the start of the week I will usually prioritise my content calendar and get work done for the week. This for example is Blog posts, projects I’m working on such as campaigning a company advert and preparing job posts. However, some days start differently. For example, if we have one-to-one meetings or team meetings these would usually take place in the morning where we discuss the previous month and look at the strategy for the next month to make sure we’re all on target.

I would then start posting on social media at this this time. I make all my posts appropriate to the day, for example on the Monday I would post motivational quotes, on Thursdays I will post fun facts and, on a Friday, I would post a riddle or something engaging.
Today particularly involved:
Post a quote on Instagram
Share my Blog post
Share a news article
Look at my project on CV constructor for candidates
Prepare an email campaign for candidates

I would usually do tasks such as SEO, following relevant accounts, connecting with local business people and sharing news articles to increase the engagement of our service. It’s also a nice way to understand what is going on in the local area. It’s about understanding the audience and their needs. We are local recruitment agency therefore I offer informative advice through my posts.

Fortunately, we are close to the town, which we can access by foot in under ten minutes. This is often a good time for me to go out for some fresh air, which also helps me think of some new marketing ideas for when I’m back in the office!
14.00
Back in the office, I will usually do my job postings at this time. According to analytics, this is usually the most engaged time on the website. As a Marketeer, the worst thing you can do is be left in the dark on what is going on with the back end of your website and social media. Understanding all the fundamentals has helped me massively to know what to post, where to post it and when to post it.
15.00
I would then finish projects I am doing for the month in this time, this can be from researching new marketing campaigns, reading an informative book on marketing, looking at ways to improve my own work this month, implementing new branding and so on. I usually do this in the afternoon as it’s when I feel most creative. It’s important to understand that Marketing is a jigsaw, it needs to be put together piece by piece and it can be time consuming. There are no quick fix solutions hence the length of the research.
16.30
This is the time I can reflect on the day and look at my checklist and feel a sense of accomplishment. I would then reply to any emails I have received or in particular on social media through my job postings.
Overall…
I would say Marketing is an adaptable role where no two days are the same, one day I will be in the office and the next day I could head out to support client meetings. My role is growing consistently into duties I had never even had exposure to.
