New year, New Job?

A career change can be done at any point in the year, however, the Christmas period is a time to reflect and think whether you want to look forward to new beginnings. If you regularly consider a career change, then there is no harm in paying attention to this now.

A new year often leaves people feeling they could or should be achieving more. This could be a sign of your potential and your room for growth in a new role. Start thinking of companies you would like to work for and the position you require. As well as this, make sure you have an updated CV so you can start applying for jobs- you never know where it may lead.

Why getting the right job is important?

Before applying for a job, it’s important to thoroughly look through the job description, look on the company website and get a feel for the team. You will need to ask what you truly want out of the job, is it the experience? Are you looking to stay long term? Are you wanting to progress within your role and potentially be promoted to a higher role? You will need to figure out exactly what you want so you know youwill accept the role if it’s offered to you.

Is a job truly for life:

There are people that have beenin their job for as long as they can remember, fully committed and there’s nointention to leave. However, according to research by LV Life Insurance, ‘an employee will change jobs on average every 5 years’. And thereis no hiding that staying in a job long term has decreased in recent years.

If you enjoy the job and the job enjoys you, then a career change won’t cross your mind. Lighthouse Personnel believes in making your mark on the company you work for by getting stuck in and going to work feeling positive and ready each day. However, we do know that this may not be the reality for some who don’t enjoy their work. If so, then a career change may just be the right answer.

Why it’s good to be loyal to your job and stay long term:

The longer you stay in a company, the more likely you will benefit from it. Employee loyalty will maintain a positive work culture and it will increase your betterment in your role and company, potentially increasing to a promotion. It will be noticed if you’re dedicated to the growth of a company. However, loyalty does not lie in the length of employment. someone that may have just joined a company, embraces where you want the company to go and works hard day in and day out will show commitment to the success they want for the company.
