As Christmas is rapidly approaching, it can feel difficult to maintain the same levels of motivation that you would normally have with the work place being different than normal at this time of year. Here we discuss some simple tips on how you can maintain a productive and organised working day before you head for the Christmas break, which you could potentially take into the new year as some work resolutions!
Have a tidy work area
This time of year is a great time to give your desk a tidy, sorting through any documents or paperwork to reorganise yourself for the New Year, adding this tidy to your daily habits in 2019! This can improve on daily productivity in the office and will feel much more organised, knowing where everything is again. There’s not a better time to start this, before you leave work for the holidays be sure to tidy your work area so you can go back into the new year with a fresh mind and a fresh desk!

Tiredness can be caused by dehydration so, with the busy office getting everything underway before the Christmas break, make sure to stay hydrated and do some basic switches e.g. instead of another coffee have a water instead.
There’s no denying with Christmas around the corner that there will be some sweet treats in the office, and we all like to have a snack throughout the day. However, balance this carefully, sugary snacks will give you an energy boost only for you to feel slump for a short while. Having one or two healthy snacks in hand will minimise sugar cravings.
Top Tip! try make some switches which you may have never done, this should be something to especially think about in the new year. For example, if you don’t live too far from work can you cycle in? Making simple switches will help you see an improvement and you’ll feel positive and ready for the day.
Give your eyes a break:
Most people will spend 90% of their of their working day looking at a screen, which can be mentally straining detrimental to your health long-term. Try and take small, but frequent breaks or go for a walk on your lunch break. Doing a task that doesn’t involve looking at the screen for 5-10 minutes will make your eyes feel less strained. This can be something as simple as cleaning your desk or a doing a round of teas for your colleagues!
Let the work environment be fun!
When appropriate make conversation in the workplace, work doesn’t need to be silent and getting on with your work which can be easy to do when you’re all busy. Afterall, you do spend the majority of the week with your work colleagues it’s important to know how everyone is and get to know them more.
