Get to know Gerard in 10 questions
Who inspires you?
Jurgen Klopp – I am a Liverpool fan and a Christian so this man is an inspiration to me. Other than that, my Wife also inspires me with her dedicated approach to our children.
Where’s your favourite place in the world?
Wales (more specifically the West Coast and Cardiff). My Dad is from Wales and both myself and family are very proud of our Welsh heritage, so much so that we named our son Llewellyn!
What’s the last book you read? Was it good?
Simon Sinek – Start With Why. This book has been extremely insightful and beneficial to me and Lighthouse Personnel, helping us to redefine our company values and approach. I am now reading Asda Magic by David Smith, which was recommended to me by one of our clients, and am enjoying learning about a different approach to company culture.
What goals are you working on right now?
To be the best parent to my children and to help grow Lighthouse Personnel to be a culture-changing, value-driven Recruitment Consultancy in our area.
Who would you most like to swap places with for the day?
Sadio Mane – for two reasons, one would be to play for Liverpool (always been a dream of mine). The other is because of the good work and generosity he shows with his wealth. I would love to witness that and see the impact it has for those who receive his generosity.
What’s your favourite family tradition?
Sleeping downstairs with my children on Christmas Eve. It might make me tired on Christmas Day, but it’s awesome!
What led you to this career?
My faith and my desire to change the industry. I never wanted to work in recruitment but I have always wanted to help others. With Lighthouse Personnel ltd I have the privilege, and opportunity, to really make a difference to peoples lives.
What advice would you give your younger self?
‘Stop worrying, everything will be alright!’ I grew up as a real worrier. It helped me to develop my values, but it was stressful being the younger me!
What’s your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?
To build Lego with my son and have a dance with my daughter. They instantly take your mind off the busy day and open your mind to their wonderful way of thinking.
What would we most likely find you doing on a weekend?
Volunteering with my sons’ football team as a coach. I really enjoy this and am involved on both Saturday and Sunday mornings.
