Let’s face it, rejection is inevitable and its part of life, which is why when it comes to interviews it isn’t any different. However, every cloud has a silver lining and there are still positives to take away from your experience. Here are ways that will kick start your job search.

Not getting the answer you wanted:

The rejection call can feel like it hit you with a ton of bricks. But the truth is, thinking rejection has hindered your chances of future success is the road you never want to stay on. You have to turn that dwell and upset into motivation to go bigger and better next time.

Focus on improvements:

There will be positives to take away from any interview, so appreciate these and keep them for next time. As with any negative feedback think specifically about what went wrong and how you can improve on these mistakes at your next interview. Don’t dwell on every little detail, but whether it’s a question that caught you off guard, or you misunderstood the dress code then pay more attention to this during the preparation of your next interview.

You may not have wanted it as much as you initially thought:

Rejection tests our spirit. We may think we want something, but occasionally our ego tricks us believing we desire something we do not. This is particularly noticeable when you have had time to think and reflect, you realise that not getting that job offer could have been a blessing in disguise.

Top Tip! Don’t stop job searching until the minute you have been confirmed a job offer.

Analyse your performance:

Take time to review your interview performance, this will help you to see what you done well and how you could do better. Here are 4 tips to help you for your next interview

  1. Write down the interview questions you remember, and how you answered them- what would you do differently next time if you answered these questions?
  2. How well did you link what you can offer with what the employer required?
  3. What questions do you wish you asked?
  4. How well did you get yourself across, was your attitude and professionalism in the right place?
If you look at all these factors after your interview it will help because you’re still in the interview mindset.

Also, if you didn’t get the job consider requesting feedback from the recruiter or the hiring manager. Be prepared for constructive criticism as this will help you improve.

Top Tip! The more preparation you do, the better you will get.
