There is no better feeling than accepting a job offer that you have worked so hard for, all the work has paid off! It’s then onto step two, which is settling into the role and finding your feet in the company. This can be challenging, especially if it’s something you’re not used to. Whether it’s your first job or your eighth job, the first few weeks will require you to step out your comfort zone.

As a recruitment agency that prides ourselves on doing things differently, we don’t simply find people jobs, place them and work on the next role. We offer advice and guidance all the way through the process, as well as months after the start date. So here are some tips we provide when starting a new role.

Stay positive:

Change comes with a variety of emotions, good and bad. While it’s likely you are excited to take on this next step, there may be a few obstacles along the way. You may feel like you’re not fitting in as quickly as you hoped to be or you can’t do some tasks. Whatever it may be, it’s important to keep your chin up and embrace the change. If you’re enthusiastic to learn then you should maintain a positive mindset.

Top tip: write down something you have enjoyed or learnt every day, this will be something to look back on each month to see how far you have progressed.

Get to know the company culture:

This may seem daunting, but finding yourself in a company often means observing the overall culture and adapting yourself to this. It’s not a quick fix, it’s a steady process. If you feel like you don’t fit in just yet give it some time and remember that your manager employed you because you expressed a variety of values that made you a good match for the company.

Listen:

In your first week, your main priority should be to soak up information. Consider challenging yourself to add value in small ways. If you are learning something new then write down the steps on how to do certain tasks to benefit you long term.

Get to grips with your routine:

Every company is different, which is why grasping a routine will be beneficial. It is also is a good sign that you’re settling in well. For those that have been in a strong routine in a previous company, it may be more difficult to break and remake a routine. However, to actively attempt to build and manage a routine will allow you to increase your efficiency.

Top tip: if you feel like you’re someone that juggles tasks, write down each day the tasks you need to complete. It will keep you on track and you can tick as you go what you have completed.

Build relationships:

At an early stage the relationships you build with your co-workers will ultimately determine your experience at the company, which is why it’s best to get to know them now. This doesn’t mean talking all day, but offering a helping hand of your services or interacting every once in a while, will help build a strong, worthwhile relationship. It will also make you feel like you are becoming a team player.

Talk to your boss:

Talking to your boss at work, especially in your first month will make sure you’re on track and doing everything that is expected from you. Set some goals and show your boss for approval, this gives you the reins of your role. If your boss has any criticism then don’t take this personally, it’s only to help you progress within your role.

Finally, we hope you have settled into your new roles nicely and wish you all the long-term successes!
